Beam Series- 'The ordinary - made less ordinary'

Writer's picture: KateKate

This is a smaller completed piece from the 'Beam Series'. It originally formed part of a mortice and tenon joint, it was the tenon part. I am so enjoying working with wood that has already had a practical life and got the man-made notches, holes, and nail marks to show for it! Normally I work with wood from its natural tree given shape and form, and although I have followed my same carving process the existing 'information' has led me to some very new shapes and forms. Elm is such a beautiful wood and the colour and grain are so gratifying when polished up. It will be exhibited as part of the Find/ Make exhibition at Gallery57 in Arundel from 0ct 2- Dec 23rd
